Who is Sade Jenkins?
I am a country girl from a small town in Arkansas called Jacksonville. I grew up loving poetry and books that took my imagination on a journey. Growing up in the country taught me so much about nature and finding joy in all of the simple things. I still carry that deeply within me. I will always be a southern girl at heart, no matter where I live.
Why do you write?
Writing has always been my way of expressing myself in a way that takes another person on a journey with me. Writing has allowed me to inspire others and broaden their minds to understand a situation or a topic in a new way. Now I am grateful to be able to share my point of view with the world. I believe that every chapter of my life has a lesson that can potentially help make a difference in another person’s life.
What inspired you to write your chapter, “Your Story is Still Being Written?
What inspired me to write "Your Story is Still Being Written" was realizing that it wasn’t my story to keep. I took time to think back on how scared and unsure I was in that chapter of my life. During that time I really needed a safe place to go to or a book that could help me understand what was happening to my body. More than anything, I needed a community that could speak to me in a way that would give me hope and truly understood what I was going through.
By lacking that type of community, I felt so isolated. I knew no one who had miscarried or had cysts or PCOS. I felt so alone and afraid that I was going to die. Those thoughts often made me feel paralyzed. Paralyzed in my own world of fear and embarrassment that my body wasn’t reacting the same as other women that I knew.
When I decided to share this chapter of my life, it was about being that safe place for another woman. I am determined to break the silence of not talking about our struggles of losing a baby and experiencing unexpected health issues. This is more than just writing a chapter; this is advocating for women to use their power to speak up for better care for their health. I am determined to be that voice that creates deeper conversations that lead women on the road to experiencing better health.

What resources would you recommend to help someone through the process?
The main source that made a huge difference in my life was attending church. Church provided me with the faith to keep going. My advice to anyone going through the same things is to take time to write down everything that you’re experiencing so that you can narrow down the type of support that you need.
What advice would you give another mom in a tough or scary situation?
Always listen to your gut or that little voice that is telling you that something is wrong. Don’t ever allow yourself to ignore that feeling. Often, we allow ourselves to ignore situations because of the fear of finding out the truth of what might be wrong. I am here to tell you that if I didn’t listen to my gut, my health would have continued to decline, as would my mental health. I am telling you to trust yourself by putting your health first.
