It’s March….and the rush of the New Year with all those resolutions and holiday credit card bills to pay has started to wear off. This is when I like to look at the year ahead and decide what my Word of the Year will be. It may feel like I’m a little late to the game….shouldn’t I have done this in January? For me, and maybe for you too, it’s best to do this when I have had some time to move into the new year and avoid the pressure of all that the new year rings in.
This year, instead of making resolutions, which are often focused on “shoulds” and can feel defeating even before starting, I encourage you to select a Word of the Year for a better 2025.
I initially struggled in picking my word this year as I have so many things I want to focus on. However, I realized that most of my important goals for the year are related to just one topic – Wellness. So that’s my Powerful Word of the Year for a Better 2025. I’m excited that I have a theme to focus my activities and decision-making.
There are four steps to find your Word of the Year. Schedule time on your calendar to have quiet “me” time to work through these four steps.
Step 1 is to envision your best year. Spend quiet time reviewing your past year and what you want this new year to look like, to feel like. What is important for you to focus on this year to be able to live your best life? Start a list of words that inspire and motivate you when you think about your best year.
Step 2 is to circle a few words. Review your list of inspiring words (or use the list provided below) and circle a few that resonate with you. Think about the words, try them on, and see what feels right. There is no need to overanalyze this process; trust your gut instead.
Step 3 is to select your word. Spend time thinking about each word and what it means to you. Does it represent how you want to live your life, how you want to feel this year? Does it support your vision for your best life this year? How does it feel – will it support you in making progress on some important goals for the year? Your word should be more about the feeling it evokes than the meaning of the word.
Step 4 is to use your word. Now that you have that powerful word of the year for a better 2025 it’s time to use it. Don’t store it away in a drawer or it will lose its power. Share your word with friends. Make something creative – write it out in color, pick some images that represent it, make a Pinterest board, write it on post-its.
Use your word to envision your year. Start and end your mediation with your word. Most importantly, when unsure of which way to go or which decision to make, gently pull your word forward and feel how each path fits. It will help guide you toward the path that will best point you toward your transformation.
Examples of words to consider: abundance, adventure, align, balance, belong, bold, calm, centered, compassion, dream, ease, expansion, faith, grace, joy, nourish.
